There have been many scientific studies that tell us that our brains learn and remember better when we are relaxed and engaged. Yet so many of us feel stress about learning a language. It is a difficult thing to do, and sometimes it feels like we are not improving. This feeling is stressful, but if we remember that learning is a process, and that the learning process will be easier if we relax, maybe we can allow ourselves to relax and learn!

What are some ways to relax in the learning process?

  1. Learn with people who make you feel relaxed or calm. Choose study partners and teachers/coaches who make you laugh and feel calm.
  2. Listen to relaxing music before or during learning.  Read this blog to learn more about this method.
  3. Choose learning methods that relax you. Read an English book on a topic that interests you, watch a movie or TV show in English that makes you laugh.
  4. Go on a learning retreat! The purpose of a retreat is to rest and relax. The purpose of an English retreat is to help you learn English through the technique of relaxing.
